What Assurance Changes

This is the point most teams underestimate. Producing a number is one thing; producing a number an assurance provider will sign off on is different. Assurance asks where a figure came from, what method converted the underlying activity into the reported value, who reviewed it, and what changed between draft and final.

A spreadsheet assembled from emailed submissions cannot answer those questions months later. The submissions are in inboxes, the formulas have been edited without record, and the person who compiled it has moved on. The Supply Chain Effect Nobody Plans For

If you supply large listed companies, BRSR reaches you regardless of whether you file one. Reporting entities need value chain data, so they ask suppliers for emissions figures, workforce information and policy attestations. For a mid-sized supplier this arrives as a customer questionnaire with a deadline attached, and the ability to answer it credibly becomes a condition of the commercial relationship.

Companies that have their environmental and social data organised answer in days. Companies that do not spend weeks assembling estimates they cannot substantiate.
