• The single core workflow that delivers your main value proposition, end to end
• Just enough authentication and data storage to support that workflow reliably
• A way to actually observe usage — basic analytics from day one, not an afterthought
• A feedback channel so early users can tell you what's broken or missing
• Enough polish that the core experience doesn't feel broken, even if surrounding features are minimal

What to Deliberately Skip

• Admin dashboards and internal tooling — use spreadsheets or database queries manually at MVP stage
• Support for edge cases that affect less than 5% of your expected initial users
• Multiple user roles and permission systems unless your core workflow genuinely requires them
• Scalability engineering for hypothetical future load — your MVP needs to handle dozens or hundreds of users, not the millions you're hoping for eventually
• Custom design systems — use an existing component library and focus design effort on the core flow only

The Rebuild Question: When Does an MVP Need to Be Thrown Away?

A common founder fear is building an MVP that becomes unusable technical debt once you need to scale. The way to avoid this isn't to over-engineer the MVP — it's to make deliberate, documented tradeoffs. If you use a simpler database schema to move faster, know that and plan to revisit it once you have real usage data. An MVP built on reasonable technology (not no-code hacks glued together) rarely needs a full rebuild — it needs targeted refactoring of the parts that turned out to matter most.
